21st Sunday After Trinity

GRANT, we beseech thee, merciful Lord, to thy faithful people pardon and peace, that they may be cleansed from all their sins, and serve thee with a quiet mind; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ADRIENNE!

30 10 2004

Misc.

30 10 2004
  • I’ve been awake since about 4:30 pm yesterday afternoon. Dinner with friends then work then no sleep even though I did get off work @ 4 this am.
  • Today is Adrienne’s birthday. She’s an old lady at 24. Yeah. I’m one to talk about being old.
  • I’m going to Rachel’s first shower today. A “naughty and nice” lingere shower too. Such fun!
  • Work is going well. They’re talking about switching me to evening shift (3pm-11pm) when this other lady gets back from sick leave (she had a triple bypass).
  • My lack of posting lately has been because of sleeping issues. I’ve been getting home and not getting to sleep right away and sleep till about 7pm. Oh to be back on a normal schedule. (To spell out schedule right there I said it in my head like the people around Jeff & Rhea would say it. Wierd.)
  • I think I’m getting delirious I’m so tired.
  • Any body notice how I swapped the bullets back and forth? I thought it would be fun. And it was. :)

20th Sunday After Trinity

24 10 2004

ALMIGHTY and most merciful God, of thy bountiful goodness keep us, we beseech thee, from all things that may hurt us; that we, being ready both in body and soul, may cheerfully accomplish those things which thou commandest; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Like a river glorious
Is God’s perfect peace,
Over all victorious
In its bright increase;
Perfect, yet it floweth
Fuller ev’ry day,
Perfect, yet it groweth
Deeper all the way.

Stayed upon Jehovah,
Hearts are fully blest,
Finding, as he promised,
Perfect peace and rest.

Hidden in the hollow
Of his blessed hand,
Never foe can follow,
Never traitor stand;
Not a surge of worry,
Not a shade of care,
Not a blast of hurry
Touch the spirit there.

Stayed upon Jehovah,
Hearts are fully blest,
Finding, as he promised,
Perfect peace and rest.

Ev’ry joy or trial
Falleth from above,
Traced upon our dial
By the Sun of Love.
We may trust him fully
All for us to do;
They who trust him wholly
Find him wholly true.

Stayed upon Jehovah,
Hearts are fully blest,
Finding, as he promised,
Perfect peace and rest.

Kinsey Millhone, P.I.

23 10 2004

On my way home from my sister’s wedding in Virginia last summer, I picked up a copy of A is for Alibi by Sue Grafton in her ABC mystery collection. They’re all about P.I. Kinsey Millhone in Santa Teresa, California, and her adventures in investigating. I enjoyed the first one in the series and started reading the next one. For some reason, I got sidetracked and never finished it. I was looking at the books on tape at the library and found some of series on tape. I grabbed B is for Burglar and listened to it on the way to and from work. I loved it. They’re read by Judy Kay and she does a wonderful job. I’m already on H (though I had to skip C and F, but will go back to those) and absolutely love them. They’re worth the read, or in my case, listen.

19th Sunday after Trinity

17 10 2004

O GOD, forasmuch as without thee we are not able to please thee; Mercifully grant that thy Holy Spirit may in all things direct and rule our hearts; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

The church’s one Foundation
Is Jesus Christ her Lord;
She is his new creation
By water and the Word:
From heav’n he came and sought her
To be his holy bride;
With his own blood he bought her,
And for her life he died.

Elect from ev’ry nation,
Yet one o’er all the earth,
Her charter of salvation
One Lord, one faith, one birth;
One holy Name she blesses,
Partakes one holy food.
And to one hope she presses,
With ev’ry grace endued.

Though with a scornful wonder
Men see her sore oppressed,
By schisms rent asunder,
By heresies distressed,
Yet saints their watch are keeping,
Their cry goes up, “How long?”
And soon the night of weeping
Shall be the morn of song.

The church shall never perish!
Her dear Lord to defend,
To guide, sustain and cherish
Is with her to the end;
Though there be those that hate her,
And false sons in her pale,
Against or foe or traitor
She ever shall prevail.

‘Mid toil and tribulation,
And tumult of her war,
She waits the consummation
Of peace for evermore;
Till with the vision glorious
Her longing eyes are blest,
And the great church victorious
Shall be the church at rest.

Yet she on earth hath union
With the God the Three in One,
And mystic sweet communion
With those whose rest is won:
O happy ones and holy!
Lord, give us grace that we,
Like them, the meek and lowly,
On high may dwell with thee.

Fellowship, Soup, and Pictures

16 10 2004

Noelle, Looking OldI was invited this evening to the BourgeoisStephen Playin in the Leaves residence for a nice quiet dinner of potato soup with them and a couple of others for somebody’s birthday. It turned out to be so much more. The pastor we have coming in as a candidate this weekend had to come by, and our quaint little dinner of about 5 or so turned into a much larger party of 9. Not that that is a bad thing. Really. I had a good time. Now I’m sitting & A & B’s computer with a glass of white wine and took some pictures from their file and put them on my account @ flickr.com. Enjoy. I did.

“I approve this message”

13 10 2004

Come on. Really. Who came up with that? The first time I heard it, it was on a George W. TV ad. Now all the candidates around here are using it. It’s starting to bug me. Is it some regulation now or are they just trying to be like the President?

Ya think everything’s ok then BAM! hit with a double

13 10 2004

At the request of many, here’s another post about work. It’s going well. I worked the first night shift Sunday night 11pm till Monday morn @ 7am. It wasn’t as bad as I thought, untill I tried to sleep. That didn’t go over too well. It’s really bright in my room during the day and the neighbor’s dog barked relentlessly. I think I’ll have to cover my windows with some darker curtians (i.e., a dark blanket or sheet).

Then I got a call on Monday night @ about 8ish from another supervisor telling me that I didn’t have to come to work that night. I wondered why and called her back to find out. Long story short, my supervisor called in and the supervisor that covered for him catches a ride with the clerk (or maybe vice versa) that works with her. They covered the night shift that night and I had to go in @ three pm on Tuesday. I thought I was going to be able to get off when the day shift clerk came in early @ three-ish am. Guess not. She holed up herself in the back working on some stuff, and I had the pleasure of sitting out front. It’s not that I hate my job or dislike it (yet anyway); I was just soooo tired.

When I finally did get to leave a little after 7am this morning, I was about to pass out. I wasn’t so sure I’d make it home. But I did and had to deal with my meowing cat and the barking dog next door for about 10 mintues before I passed out. It was so strange waking up at 4 in the afternoon. I had tried really hard to switch my schedule around this weekend to get ready for the week and when I didn’t have to work Monday night, My schedule went back to normal. I think I was awake for about 22 hours straight. That’s a record for me, it seems though doubtful.

I keep looking a the calendar and have to keep myself that it’s Wednesday already. Tonight I go back on my regular shift and all will be well.

Here goes the swing.

8 10 2004

Work is going well. The lady that has been training me this week says I’m doing very well. The superintendent for the shipping dept. came to me and asked if I was comfortable enough to go ahead and swing to the shift I was hired for. Graveyard. Eleven-seven. I’ll start Sunday night @ 11. Ugh.
