I’ve basically been handed the GEC website and given the task of updating/redesign. Anybody got any ideas? I’m just going to work on getting it updated right now but am thinking about a redesign. I started to do it for JKPC when Jeff was still there but never got around to it. I wish I still had all the code I worked on.
Pentacost 6 (Proper 8)
26 06 2005Almighty God, you have built your Church upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief cornerstone: Grant us so to be joined together in unity of spirit by their teaching, that we may be made a holy temple acceptable to you; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
Christ is made the sure foundation,
Christ the head and cornerstone,
chosen of the Lord, and precious,
binding all the Church in one;
holy Zion’s help for ever,
and her confidence alone.
All that dedicated city,
dearly loved of God on high,
in exultant jubilation
pours perpetual melody;
God the One in Three adoring
in glad hymns eternally.
To this temple, where we call thee,
come, O Lord of Hosts, today;
with thy wonted loving-kindness
hear thy servants as they pray,
and thy fullest benediction
shed within its walls alway.
Here vouchsafe to all thy servants
what they ask of thee of gain;
what they gain from thee, for ever
with the blessèd to retain,
and hereafter in thy glory
evermore with thee to reign.
Laud and honor to the Father,
laud and honor to the Son,
laud and honor to the Spirit,
ever Three, and ever One,
consubstantial, co-eternal,
while unending ages run.

Feast Day of St. Alban (June 22)
24 06 2005Almighty God, by whose grace and power your holy martyr Alban triumphed over suffering and was faithful even to death: Grant us, who now remember him in thanksgiving, to be so faithful in our witness to you in this world, that we may receive with him the crown of life; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Are shoes really that flammable?
24 06 2005Cancel Code Zippo. Repeat: Cancel Code Zippo
Morning Edition, June 24, 2005 – The security alert is sometimes code yellow, sometimes orange, but is no longer Code Zippo. In April, the Transportation Security Administration banned lighters from commercial planes. Then the Zippo lighter company complained. By May, the government let people travel with lighters, if they were empty, and in checked bags. Now, in June, the government has recalibrated again. You can carry a filled lighter, if it’s in a box — and, presumably, away from your shoe.

Library update
24 06 2005I didn’t get the job, but it’s really weird. I’m not disappointed at all. I mean sure I’d be getting a little more money, working in Ruston during normal working hours, but it was going to be a hell of a lot more stressful and I’d have to dress-up everyday. I’m almost relieved that I didn’t get it.

Dumb Criminals
23 06 2005Pizza Parlor Applicant Makes Strong First Impression
Morning Edition, June 23, 2005 – Police in Las Vegas say a man named Alejandro Martinez walked into a pizza parlor. He ordered a slice of pizza and started filling out a job application. Apparently he decided he didn’t want the job, because allegedly, he then pulled out a gun and demanded money. A clerk gave him $200, and Martinez fled. But he was not too hard for the police to find. Authorities say he left behind that job application, which included his real name and address.

Josh
20 06 2005For those of you that know him, Josh W. was in a car accident yesterday. He fell asleep at the wheel and fortunately is fine, but he hit a motorcyclist and killed him. Let’s pray for Josh, his family, and the family of the biker.

Another?
20 06 2005BJ called me Thursday to whipser over the phone that there’s a job opening at the library. He’d call me later about details since he couldn’t talk then. We talked later and he told me that the administrative assistant to the director was open. It pays just a tad more than what I’m getting now, it’s in Ruston (read: no 30 minute drive to and from work), and it’s from 8-5 (read: a daytime job!!). I went Friday afternoon (after BJ woke me up!) and had an interview with the director. It seemed to go well. We talked for about 30-45 minutes, and I like her, and I think she liked me. It seems to be a stressful drive, but I think (or at least hope) I can handle it. She said she’ll make her decision by Friday this week and give me a call or I can call her. I wasn’t actively seeking this job; it just fell in my lap. I’d appreciate your prayers.

Pentacost 5 (proper 7)
19 06 2005O Lord, make us have perpetual love and reverence for your holy Name, for you never fail to help and govern those whom you have set upon the sure foundation of your lovingkindness; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
Faith of our fathers! living still
in spite of dungeon, fire, and sword:
O how our hearts beat high with joy,
whene’er we hear that glorious word:
Refrain:
Faith of our fathers, holy faith!
We will be true to thee till death.
Faith of our fathers! faith and prayer
shall win all nations unto thee;
and through the truth that comes from God,
mankind shall then indeed be free. Refrain
Faith of our fathers! we will love
both friend and foe in all our strife:
and preach thee, too, as love knows how,
by kindly deeds and virtuous life. Refrain

Pentacost 4 (Proper 6)
16 06 2005Keep, O Lord, your household the Church in your steadfast faith and love, that through your grace we may proclaim your truth with boldness, and minister your justice with compassion; for the sake of our Savior Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
Come, labor on.
Who dares stand idle on the harvest plain,
while all around us waves the golden grain?
And to each servant does the Master say,
“Go work today.”
Come, labor on.
The enemy is watching night and day,
to sow the tares, to snatch the seed away;
while we in sleep our duty have forgot,
he slumbered not.
Come, labor on.
Away with gloomy doubts and faithless fear!
No arm so weak but may do service here:
by feeblest agents may our God fulfill
his righteous will.
Come, labor on.
Claim the high calling angels cannot share–
to young and old the Gospel gladness bear;
redeem the time; its hours too swiftly fly.
The night draws nigh.
Come, labor on.
No time for rest, till glows the western sky,
till the long shadows o’er our pathway lie,
and a glad sound comes with the setting sun.
“Servants, well done.”
Come, labor on.
The toil is pleasant, the reward is sure,
blessed are those who to the end endure;
how full their joy, how deep their rest shall be,
O Lord, with thee.

I’m sorry!
16 06 2005Y’all are probably tired of looking at that crazy picture of me aren’t you? I know it’s been more than a week since I last posted; I even missed Sunday.
I was at my mom’s new house the other day and walked by a picture of my dad’s mom in her younger years. I’ve known for several years how much I look like her, but even this time I was caught off guard and thought it was me. When I was a senior in high school, Mom put up our (me and my sisters) senior pictures. Every time I came out of my room, I would see myself out of the corner of my eye and think it was her. One of the last times she and I got together, I had to just sit and stare, wondering how much I would look like her when I got older. That reminds me, I need to call her. I love you Bana!
